Germany: Two regional trains collide

local train carrying 150 commuters from the northern suburbs, were derailed when it collided with a regional express train. The express, from Gera had about 200 people on board. The locomotive and the first coach of this train were also derailed.

The two trains were travelling in the same direction when the local train was routed onto the same track as, and just ahead of the express. A preliminary check has revealed no technical problems with signalling or other equipment. Early indications are that the driver of the local train passed a red stop signal.
