The two trains were travelling in the same direction when the local train was routed onto the same track as, and just ahead of the express. A preliminary check has revealed no technical problems with signalling or other equipment. Early indications are that the driver of the local train passed a red stop signal. The injured were treated at the accident site by emergency services and one woman who suffered a broken leg was admitted to hospital. The other twelve who were hurt suffered less serious injuries. |
