7 killed in Sudanese rail collision

Sudan 12 January 1999: Two passenger trains have collided near the town of Abu Zeid in Western Kordofan, Sudan. According to reports in the daily Al-Anbaa' 7 people were killed and 25 injured when a train ran into the rear of another which had come to a halt due to mechanical problems.
The accident occurred at about 0500 local time in the station at Darus.
Abu Zeid is about 345 miles (550 km) southwest of Khartoum.
