45 injured in Virgin train crash

A crash between a London - Glasgow train and an empty train has injured 45 people, 15 of them seriously.
Twenty-nine people are being treated in hospital.

The accident occurred at 0852 just outside Winsford station in Cheshire. The train involved was the 0630 Euston to Glasgow service. The empty train, belonging to First North Western was en route to Manchester Piccadilly station.

The High Speed train was travelling at about 100 mph. The locomotive fell onto its side and the first four carriages of the train were derailed but remained upright.

An emergency number has been issued for those concerned about relatives travelling on the train
