City of New Orleans in crossing collision

:Tuesday, April 27, 1999

Amtrak's southbound 'City of New Orleans' train crashed into a truck at a crossing near Jackson on Monday April 26 1999.

The train had just passed through Jackson when the accident occurred at about 11:20. An eyeweitness said that the truck did not stop at the crossing. None of the 107 people on the train were hurt.

The train was able to continue its journey southwards about 2 hours later, but minus the lead engine which was badly damaged.

The 'City of New Orleans' was involved in another collision with a truck, on 15 March when 11 people were killed.
