8 killed in Chinese rail crash: Saturday, July 10, 1999 An 18 carriage train carrying about 1000 people derailed near Hengyang in Hunan province.The accident occurred in the northern suburbs of Hengyang city at 22:48 local time (1448 GMT) on Friday July 9th 1999. Reports from China state that 12 of the train's carriages were derailed in the accident whose cause is not yet known. Eight people were killed and 61 people were injured. Hengyang is on the main line between Wuchang, in Hubei province and Zhanjiang. Comment on this item... |
