Sabotage derails express train in northern India

Sabotage is thought to be the cause of the derailment of the Lucknow- Saharanpur Express on 11 September
1999 on India's Northern Railway.
The train was travelling between Gajraula and Saharanpur when the locomotive and 6 coaches became derailed near Haldaur in Uttar Pradesh. Thirteeen people were injured in the incident which occurred at about 07:00 local time.
According to Indian Railways a section of track measuring 2.19 metres had been removed from the line between the stations at Haldaur and Bijnour.
