USA: Long Island RR crossing smashA passenger train collided with a truck on a rail crossing at Glen Cove NY on Wednesday March 17, 1999. In a macabrely similar incident to the 'City of New Orleans' disaster, just 36 hours later a flat-bed truck drove onto the crossing where it was struck by a Long Island RR commuter train. The truck was carrying an excavator when it "bottomed out" on the crossing. The 5 car passenger train was not derailed. It had between 50 and 70 passengers on board. There are no reports of injuries. |
