Amtrak's 'Sunset Limited' collided with a truck on a crossing on 8 July derailing the train and injuring 18 people.

Overturned locomotive of Amtrak's 'Sunset Limited' at Eagle Lake, Texas

The train, carrying 235 people was en route between Los Angeles and Orlando, Florida when it collided with the truck hauling a salt water disposal tank. The two locomotives were derailed with the lead loco overturning. A number of carriages were also derailed. The accident occurred at 11:43 at a crossing with no lights or barriers on Union Pacific tracks.

The truck driver has been charged by the police

The 'Sunset Limited, was involved in the Amtrak's worst-ever accident at Mobile, Alabama on 22 September 1993. Forty-seven people were killed when the train fell into a bayou from a bridge had been damaged by a barge towboat.
