5 critical in German underground train collision

  : Tuesday, August 24, 1999
Many people have been injured in a collision between 2 underground trains in Germany's fourth largest city, Cologne.
Early reports suggest that as many as 70 people were injured, 5 critically.

Few details are available at present. The accident occurred at Christof Street station where a train was standing. A second train, travelling at speed collided with the first. An Associated Press report stated that the train that rammed the other was a prototype still under testing, which is supposed to brake automatically when another halts in front of it

One of those seriously injured is the driver of the prototype train.
