British safety expert to examine State Rail Safety

A
British rail safety expert is to prepare a report on New South Wales' recent
accidents.
State Rail announced that it had appointed Andy Waters to examine the circumstances
of the Glenbrook disaster and other incidents as well as reviewing safety
systems on the network.
He will present
the report early in the new year.
Mr Waters' brief
will include an examination of the latest incident which occurred today
when an empty train became derailed between North Sydney station and a holding
yard in Lavender Bay. The incident occurred at 08:321 closing both the northbound
and the southbound lines and stranding thousands of commuters.
Other incidents
which he will look into occurred at Blacktown and Waverton in the last week.
