11 killed as Indian Railways express collides with Jeep

Eleven people were killed and 3 more injured when an Indian Railways express train collided with a jeep on Sunday November 28, 1999.
The Maharastra Express travelling from Nagpur to Kolhapur collided with the jeep at a crossing near Ahmednaggar station about 125 miles east of Bombay. According to a railway official, the driver of the jeep had tried to drive his vehicle through a small gap near the level crossing.
The victims were sugarcane cutters and weretravelling in the jeep which was taking them from Junnar to Pathardi. The driver of the jeep survived the collision but was admitted to hospital along with two others.
The accident, which occurred on the Central Railway is being investigated.
