The accident occurred on an unguarded level crossing at Ksar El Kebir about 112 miles north of Rabat. Reports from witnesses suggest that the tractor driver drove over the crossing despite horn blasts from the speeding train. The driver was amongst those who managed to jump clear. It is reported that there were about 50 people aboard the trailer. Officials at the scene fear that the death toll may yet increase. The train was en route between Rabat and Tangiers
