CSX freight train derails

Twenty-three cars of a
CSX Derailment
105-car CSX freight train derailed on Monday September 11 at the north end of Howell Yards, Evansville.
No one was injured in the 9:45 a.m. accident, although the derailment near Reitz High School showered Ray Becker Parkway with guardrails and gravel from the rail bed.

The train carried no hazardous material. All 105 cars — most not much more than a year old — were empty coal cars made of aluminum. The train was bound for Patiki Mine in Epworth, Ill. The worst of the derailment occurred on and just south of the Ray Becker overpass, where four of the cars jackknifed. One or two of them knocked the debris to the roadway below.
