Howrah-Amritsar Express collision
: Sunday July 2, 2000
The two drivers of the Howrah-Amritsar Express were killed when their train collided with the rear of a train of empty passenger stock at Ambala on 1 July.
Five passengers were also hurt in the accident.
The accident occurred between Ambala Cantonment and Ambala city stations. The empty carriages were being taken to the City station to form the service to Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh when the train came to a halt. The Express was accelerating after leaving Ambala Cantonment when the collision occurred.
An investigation into the accident has begun.
