Deutsche Bahn to be sued over ICE accident
(railtec)
A German lawyer has issued a suit against German Railways (Deutsche Bahn) alleging that it is culpable in causing the deaths of passengers on ICE 884 which crashed at Eschede on 3 June 1998.
The suit alleges that Deutsche Bahn was aware of a defect in the wheels used on the train that crashed. The first generation ICE units, of which ICE 884 was one, used a type of wheel which is made of composite materials. It was a design introduced to provide smoother ride characteristics. Later ICE versions use a different, type of wheel.
