The ICE Wheel These wheels, with their composite construction to include a rubber strip were introduced to combat vibration that was transmitted through the mechanical suspension system. This type of wheel is common on light railway/rapid transit systems.
Later ICE trains employ pneumatic suspension and are therefore able to utilise "monobloc" wheels.
